The flag of Nepal

Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is mainly situated in the Himalayas, but also includes parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north, and India to the south, east, and west, while it is narrowly separated from Bangladesh by the Siliguri Corridor, and from Bhutan by the Indian state of Sikkim. Nepal has a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world's ten highest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point above mean sea level on Earth. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and its largest city. Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural sovereign state, with Nepali as the official language. Lhasa Newar (or Lhasa Newah; Newar: ल्हासा नेवा) were the expatriate Newar traders and artisans who traveled between the Kathmandu Valley and Tibet from centuries ago. These Nepalese merchants conducted trade between Nepal, Tibet and Bengal, India over the Silk Road, and acted as a bridge for economic and cultural exchanges between South Asia and Central Asia.

Along with the merchants, there were colonies of artisans in various parts of Tibet who were engaged in creating Buddhist art. They were major players in the exchange of art styles across the Himalaya. (Full article...)

Portrait of Prithvi Narayan Shah

Prithvi Narayan Shah (Nepali: पृथ्वीनारायण शाह; 7 January 1723 – 11 January 1775) was the last monarch of the Gorkha Kingdom and the founding monarch of the unified Kingdom of Nepal, also referred to as the Gorkha Empire. He is credited with initiating the Unification of Nepal and relocating Kathmandu as the royal capital. He ruled Gorkha from 1743 to 1768 and Nepal from 1768 until his death in 1775. Through a series of strategic conquests, systemic economic blockades, and fragile political alliances, he expanded Gorkha's territory and laid the sovereign framework of modern Nepal.

Prithvi Narayan Shah played a central role in the formation of modern Nepal through his campaigns to unite different small kingdoms under one rule. He is considered a foundational titan in Nepalese history. His efforts to unify the fractured country and build a shared political identity earned him the historic title "Father of the Nation" and "King of Kings". (Full article...)

CTC and Orthodox tea

Nepali tea is a beverage made from the leaves of tea plants (Camellia sinensis) grown in Nepal. They are distinctive in appearance, aroma and taste, but are similar in many ways to Darjeeling tea, which is produced over the border in India. Its relatively smaller production quantities mean that teas from Nepal are less well known than those from Darjeeling.

Nepal's teas fall into two types of tea: Orthodox tea and Crush, tear, curl tea. (Full article...)
