Outline of the Tel Aviv Metro

The Tel Aviv Metro (also MetroTLV) is an under-construction subway system in the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area, set to complement the Tel Aviv Light Rail and Israel Railways with three lines and 109 stations. Construction began in 2025, with the first public opening scheduled for 2037, authorized under National Outline Plan 70.

History

Proposed in 2015 due to projected capacity issues with the light rail, the project evolved into a joint effort between ministries, with NTA (Metropolitan Mass Transit System) launching feasibility studies in 2016. Following route approval in 2019 and preliminary works in 2022-2023, the formal, official groundbreaking occurred on 18 December 2025, in Petah Tikva. International pre-qualification for construction tenders began in February 2026.[1]
