The Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi is the diplomatic mission representing Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates. The embassy is located in the Diplomatic Area in Abu Dhabi.[1] Shafqat Ali Khan is the incumbent Ambassador of Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates.[2][3] Pakistan also has a Consulate-General in Dubai, which works under the embassy.[4]

The Embassy provides various Consular services including Machine Readable Passports (MRP), NADRA ID cards, Visa, Attestation in addition to various Community Welfare Services.[5] On average around 500 to 700 people visit the Embassy daily for various services.[6][7][8]

History

Pakistan recognised the United Arab Emirates shortly after the federation was established on 2 December 1971, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established the same year.[9] The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi was subsequently established as Pakistan's principal diplomatic mission to the UAE.[10][11]

Since its establishment, the embassy has represented Pakistan before the Government of the United Arab Emirates and has served as the principal channel for diplomatic relations between the two countries. It also provides diplomatic and consular services to Pakistani nationals in the United Arab Emirates, while coordinating bilateral cooperation in political, economic and cultural affairs.[12][13][14]

In addition to the embassy in Abu Dhabi, Pakistan maintains the Consulate-General of Pakistan in Dubai, which provides consular services to Pakistani nationals residing in the northern emirates. Together, the two missions serve one of the world's largest overseas Pakistani communities.[15][16]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the embassy coordinated the repatriation of Pakistani nationals stranded in Abu Dhabi as part of Pakistan's overseas evacuation programme.[17][18]
