Chloe Sarwie (born 19 December 2008) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Women's Super League club Chelsea and the England under-20 and under-23 national teams.

Early life

Chloe Sarwie was born on 19 December 2008 in Lambeth, South London,[1] and raised in Clapham. She has an older brother. As a child, she states she ‘‘wasn't really interested’’ in football,[2] instead taking part in ballet between the ages of two and eight.[3]

Youth career

Sarwie joined Chelsea's academy when she was eight[2] or nine years old.[3] She has stated that she was encouraged to join an academy after a coach spotted her playing football in a park.[2]

Club career

Chelsea, 2025–

Sarwie made her first team debut for Chelsea in the 2025–26 season,[4] coming on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw against FC Twente.[5] On 24 February 2026, Sarwie signed her first professional contract with the club,[6] following in the footsteps of fellow academy graduates Aggie Beever-Jones and Lola Brown.[7]

In August 2026, Sarwie was part of the Chelsea squad who travelled to New Zealand and Australia for a pre-season tour.[8] She appeared as a second-half substitute in the team's 0–7 victory over Auckland FC and 0–3 win over an A-League All-Stars side.[9][10]

International career

Sarwie has played for England at all youth levels.[11]

In July 2025, Sarwie was part of the England under-19 team who competed at the 2025 Under-19 Euro;[12] she was the youngest member of the squad.[13]

On 19 November 2025, Sarwie was named to England under-20's 24-player squad for a series of friendlies ahead of the 2026 U-20 Women’s World Cup.[14] On 24 November 2025, Sarwie—age 16—was called up to England's under-23 team after Megan Collett withdrew due to injury, and was replaced in the under-20 squad by Damilola Atinaro.[15] In April 2026, Sarwie was part of the winning squad at the U23 European Competition,[16] having been awarded Player of the Match in the semi-final victory over the Netherlands.[17][18] In May and July 2026, Sarwie was called back up to the under-20 squad for U-20 World Cup preparation camps in Spain and the United States.[19][20] On 21 August 2026, Sarwie was officially called up to represent England at the tournament.[21][22]

Personal life

Sarwie’s mother, Jean, teaches at the school that Sarwie attends. As of 2026, she is studying for a BTEC qualification in Engineering. Her family are Arsenal supporters.[3]

Sarwie has stated that—despite not initially picking it herself—42, her shirt number for Chelsea, has become her lucky number.[23]

The young Chelsea defender made her debut last October in the Champions League, aged just 16, and is balling out for club and country. Several first-team appearances have since followed for the Blues, including a first start in the WSL, and she's shining in the England youth ranks too. Chloe earned her first U23 call-up at 16, helping the Young Lionesses win the U23 European Competition in April, picking up Player of the Match in the semi-final. Bright, confident, and highly-rated. There's a big future ahead here, and with the F50s on foot, she's ready to set the league alight. Trust us, you should remember the name.
