Wang Yiren (Chinese: 王怡人; born December 29, 2000), also known mononymously as Yiren, is a Chinese singer and dancer. She is a former member of the South Korean girl group Everglow, formed by Yuehua Entertainment in 2019.[1] Before joining Everglow, she appeared as a contestant on the South Korean survival show Produce 48 (2018).[1] She made her solo debut on August 31, 2022, with the single "Call Call".[2][3]
Early life
Yiren was born on December 29, 2000, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.[1] At age 15, she appeared on the cover of a Chinese student magazine, and she later graduated in traditional Chinese dance from the Zhejiang Art Vocational Academy.[1]
Career
2018–2021: Produce 48 and debut with Everglow
In 2018, Yiren competed on the South Korean reality competition show Produce 48 as a trainee of Yuehua Entertainment, alongside labelmates Kim Si-hyeon and Choi Ye-na. She was eliminated in episode 11, finishing in 28th place overall.[1]
In February 2019, Yiren was revealed as a member of the upcoming girl group Everglow. The group debuted on March 18, 2019, with the single album Arrival of Everglow and its lead single "Bon Bon Chocolat", with a first televised performance on M Countdown shortly after.[1]
Everglow continued to release music through this period, and Yiren appeared as a guest on the variety show Running Man in September 2020 during promotion for the single "La Di Da".[4] In December 2020, Yiren and Si-hyeon tested positive for COVID-19, prompting a period of self-isolation for the group and its staff.[5]
2022–2024: Hiatus, Chinese solo activities, and solo debut with "Call Call"
On January 2, 2022, at an Everglow fan-signing event in Seoul, Yiren was the only member who did not perform the traditional Korean deep bow to greet fans for the Lunar New Year, instead using a Chinese fist-and-palm salute; her Korean bandmates knelt and bowed in the customary Korean style.[6][7] The incident, following earlier comments in which Yiren had expressed pride in Chinese culture and a 2021 social media post supporting China's position on Xinjiang, drew backlash from South Korean fans as well as support from Chinese fans, and was described by some commentators as drawing racially charged criticism.[6][8] Yuehua Entertainment subsequently announced that Yiren would take a temporary break from group activities to return to China for family and academic reasons.[6]
While in China, Yiren modeled for clothing brands and appeared on several Chinese television programs, including Star Chaser 2, The Mews, and Street Dance of China season 5.[2]
On August 31, 2022, Yiren made her solo debut with the Chinese-language single, "Call Call".[2][3] She returned to South Korea and resumed activities with Everglow in November 2022.[9]
2025–present: Departure from Everglow
In March 2025, Yiren stated on the fan-communication app Bubble that she had not received any income from Everglow's activities since the group's 2019 debut.[8][10] In May 2025, Yuehua Entertainment announced that its exclusive contract with all six Everglow members would end in June 2025.[10][11] On September 10, 2025, the remaining four members — E:U, Sihyeon, Onda, and Aisha — signed with a new agency, CHXXTA Company, continuing as a four-member group; Yiren did not join the relaunched lineup, having remained separately bound by an individual contract with Yuehua's Chinese division.[12][13]
