This Mirror Weighs a Ton is the eighth studio album by the American rock band Interpol. It was released by Partisan Records on August 28, 2026,[1] and is the band's first release since 2022's The Other Side of Make-Believe.

Background and recording

The album was produced by Andrew Wyatt with mixing by Dave Fridmann: the album was recorded at Wyatt's studio in New York City, marking the first time in a decade that the band recorded in their home state.[2] Upon the album's announcement, it was revealed that Brandon Curtis and Brad Truax, the band's longtime touring keyboardist and bassist respectively, were added to the lineup as official members, though only the latter contributed to the album while Wyatt performed all the keyboards and synthesizers.[3] The album cover is a work by American artist Addie Wagenknecht currently part of the Whitney Museum of American Art's permanent collection.[2] The naming of the title track is described as emerging from "Paul Banks' improvisational vocal process, where melodies and phrases develop simultaneously. Themes of reflection, perception and emotional tension recur throughout the record".[2] The album will be the band's first on Partisan Records.[4]

Release and marketing

On June 9, 2026, Interpol announced the album alongside the double single "This Mirror Weighs a Ton"/"See Out Loud". Pre-orders of digital and physical editions were made available the same day.[4]

The album's third single, "Iron City", was released on July 8, 2026.[5]
