Tamao Nakamura (中村 玉緒, Nakamura Tamao; July 12, 1939 – June 9, 2026) was a Japanese actress.[1][2] Her father was kabuki actor Nakamura Ganjirō II.[1][2]
Career
Nakamura was scouted by director Teruo Ogiyama and made her film debut with Kageko to Yukie when she was a junior high school student.[2] After graduating junior high school, she signed her contract with Daiei film company in 1954.[2] She married actor Shintaro Katsu in 1962.[2][1] In the 1990s, she expanded her career into variety shows and gained widespread popularity. A character modeled after her, Tamao Nakamure, appeared in the 1997 film Crayon Shin-chan: Pursuit of the Balls of Darkness.[3] Nakamura died from pneumonia on June 9, 2026, at the age of 86.[4]
