Streptococcaceae is a family of Gram-positive bacteria in the order Lactobacillales.[2] The family contains four genera with validly published and correct names: Floricoccus, Lactococcus, Lactovum, and Streptococcus.[1] The family name is derived from its type genus, Streptococcus, whose name comes from the Ancient Greek words στρεπτός (streptós), meaning "twisted", and κόκκος (kókkos), meaning "grain".[2]
