Spartak Chernihiv (Ukrainian: Спартак Чернігів) was a Ukrainian women's football team in Chernihiv, Ukraine established in early 2000 as a department of the local Spartak sports society.[1]

The women's football team played in 2013–2016 at the amateur level (First League) and in 2017 was absorbed by the neighboring FC Yednist Plysky.

History

Origin

The team was established in 2000. With the revival of the First League competitions in 2013, the team entered them. They returned for the 2015 First League competition as well. In 2016, the team became the competition champion and was promoted to the Ukrainian Women's League for the 2017 season.[2][3]

Mergers with Yednist and ShVSM

In 2017, Yednist Plysky women's team was established based on Spartak Chernihiv.[4][5] The successful performance of Spartak ShVSM Chernihiv made the president of Yednist, Mykhailo Holytsia, interested in the team and he offered financial assistance.[5] The fact of the teams succession confirmed in interview by former player, Alyona Komanda, on 25 August 2022, who played for Spartak, Lehenda, Yednist among others.[6] She explained that the Yednist women's team was, de facto, the former Spartak, which had been renamed.

In 2018 the Yednist Plysky was merged with Lehenda-ShVSM Chernihiv as Yednist-ShVSM Plysky.[7][8] The ShVSM (School of the Higher Sports Mastery) chairman, Volodymyr Maherramov,[5] who happened to be also the Lehenda's chairman, became a chairman of Yednist-ShVSM as well.[8] Many players who played for Lehenda moved to the Plysky football team, which had more stable financially.[5]

In June 2020 Yednist-ShVSM Plysky informed the Ukrainian Association of Football that it ends its participations in competitions.[4] The new club tooks its roots from Spartak Chernihiv.

Stadium and facilities

The team had started at the sports complex located on vulytsia Museina, 4, in Chernihiv. In 2016, the Spartak sports base in Chernihiv was at the center of a scandal. The scandalous organization, Physical Culture and Sports Association of Ukraine, continued to claim that the building belongs to them and, thus, the building's postal address is not required, as they are not going to transfer the complex to the city council's balance. At the same time, the above-mentioned organization cannot submit documents on the right of ownership.[9][10] The team played in Tekstylschyk stadium, in Lokomotiv stadium and also in the new modern Chernihiv Arena in Chernihiv, which belongs to FC Chernihiv.
