Søren Torpegaard Lund (pronounced [ˈsøːɐ̯n̩ ˈtʰɒːpəˌɡ̊ɒːˀ lɔnˀ]; born 23 December 1998)[1] is a Danish singer, songwriter, actor and dancer. He represented Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with the song "Før vi går hjem".

Early life and education

Søren Torpegaard Lund was born on 23 December 1998 in Gudme on the island of Funen.[1][2]

Lund began performing in school plays in elementary school,[3] and in his 10th year of high school he went to a music and theatre boarding school where he received training in theatre, dance, and music[3] as well as boarding there for one year[4] and he has commented that "I had done a lot of theater before [boarding school]... but all the technique behind it was completely new to me. But it was also the first time I felt that I actually had a talent that could perhaps turn into something bigger."[3]

From 2016 to 2019, Lund studied musical theatre at the Danish National School of Performing Arts (Den Danske Scenekunstskole),[2][5] where—at the age of 17—he became the youngest ever student in the Musical Academy (Musicalakademiet) in Fredericia.[3]

Musical career

Lund on the Turquoise Carpet of Eurovision 2026

Lund began working as a musical performer, taking on roles in local productions of musicals such as West Side Story, Dance of the Vampires, and Kinky Boots.[6] He played the lead role of Tony in West Side Story at the Copenhagen Opera House in 2021 and 2022. He received a talent award at the Reumert, a Danish theatre prize, in 2021.[7] In 2026, it was announced that Lund would play Orpheus in a Danish production of the musical Hadestown starting in 2027[8].

In 2023, Lund participated in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023, the Danish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.[9] There, his song "Lige her" failed to qualify for the superfinal. In the same year, he released his first self-penned single, "Stor kunst".[10] In October 2024, he released his debut EP, Øjesten. In February 2026, he won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 with the song "Før vi går hjem". Lund thus earned the right to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.[11][12] After qualifying for the final, he placed 7th with 243 points, acheiving Denmarks best placement in the competition since 2013.[13] He and his team received the 2026 Marcel Bezençon Award for composition.[14] In July 2026, he released "Festen stopper aldrig" following his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest[15].

Personal life

Lund is openly gay.[16] As of May 2026, he has been in a relationship with his boyfriend for almost 9 years and been engaged to him for the past 3 years.[17] They met when they were both studying the same musical theatre programme at the Danish National School of Performing Arts.[3]

I have dreamed of becoming a musical performer my whole life, and at 17 I entered the Musical Academy in Fredericia. As the youngest student ever. Today I am 19, but I am still the youngest in the entire school... ...In elementary school, many of my classmates were a little shy when we had to do theater... ...They didn't want too much attention, but I was just so happy when I got one of the roles in our school play. I felt at home on stage... ...But after ninth grade, I went to a music and theater secondary school, and there I suddenly found myself with a lot of other young people who were also interested in music and acting. At school I was taught dance, music and drama, and that's when I realized that if I really want this, I have to work hard. I had done a lot of theater before, but all the technique behind it was completely new to me. But it was also the first time I felt that I actually had a talent that could perhaps turn into something bigger. I have chosen to focus on that... ...I also found my boyfriend at school. It's great to have someone to share this with who understands what I'm going through at school.

Søren: It's like after 9th or 10th grade. No, it's either 9th or 10th grade. And then you go to like, just like, a boarding school and then you have like, uh then you pick a subject, like I went to a musical theater boarding school so I could like do singing, dancing, music, uh drama thing, or you could play sports or like they have everything... ...And then you're just there for a year kind of move, you move in there and live there and it's a very, very nice. So like 15 16ish. Eva Marija: I can imagine that's like cray cray lifestyle. Søren:Yeah. And they, everyone like, every parent will be like "It's going to be the greatest year of your life." But it is true though nothing can compare... Cosmo:...it's going to be worse after that. It's just going to go, it's just going to get worse. That's like the peak of life and then after that it just gets worse.
