Orlando Daniel Gill Noldin (born 11 June 2000; Spanish pronunciation: [oɾˈlando daˈnjel ˈxiʝ ˈnoldin]) is a Paraguayan professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for the Argentine Primera División club San Lorenzo and the Paraguay national team.
Club career
Club Sportivo San Lorenzo
Orlando Daniel Gill Noldin was born in the Paraguayan city of San Lorenzo[2] on 11 June 2000;[1] his first steps into becoming a footballer were in a local youth club, Club 13 de Junio, where he played as a midfielder.[5][6][7] Later on, at age nineteen and as a goalkeeper, Gill gained a professional contract with his local club, CS San Lorenzo; nonetheless, he only disputed three matches at the club before being loaned out to San Lorenzo de Almagro in 2024.[8][2]
San Lorenzo de Almagro
Gill arrived at San Lorenzo to form part of its reserve team.[6] In his first season, he was noted for his performances during the campaign where the club finished as the reserve league's runners-up, which helped Gill to be considered as a candidate for the first-team.[5][3] His debut in the first-team came in the last game of the 2024 AFA Liga Profesional de Fútbol,[2] a 1–0 home loss against CA Tigre.[9]
In the following season's pre-season, Facundo Altamirano suffered an injury in a match versus Uruguay's Club Nacional de Football; and along with the lack of goalkeepers, led Gill to start in the following three matches,[10] where he kept a clean sheet in all three.[11] After this, San Lorenzo opted to acquire 50 percent of Gill's contract for 500,000, as he was playing without one. The rest was paid to his former team, CS San Lorenzo.[11] Gill impressed in his first matches of the league; he beat the club record of most clean sheets at the start of the season,[12] and at the end of the season's first half, conceded only twelve goals throughout nineteen matches.[3]
International career
Before debuting as professional, Gill was called up to the Paraguay U20s for the 2019 South American U-20 Championship.[13] Subsequently, Manager of the senior Paraguay national team, Gustavo Alfaro, was intrigued by Gill's playing in San Lorenzo. Because of this, Gill was called up to debut in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match over the Peru national team on 6 September 2025, where the Paraguayans won 1–0.[4]
On 1 June 2026, Gill was announced as part of the Paraguay squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.[14][15] On 29 June 2026, Gill saved two penalties in a shootout against Germany and helped Paraguay advance to the round of 16.[16][7] He was also named Man of the Match in the Round of 16 clash against France, which ended in a 1–0 defeat after a penalty.[17] He was named to the 2026 FIFA World Cup Rising Stars Team of the Tournament by FIFA.[18]
Style of play
A left-footed goalkeeper,[2] Gill is known for his shot-stopping ability and consistency. He is particularly effective at making saves from close range and has been praised for his performances under pressure.[19]
Personal life
Gill had to sell his Paraguay U-20 jersey from the 2019 South American U-20 Championship along with his other football equipment to help cover medical expenses after his son was born prematurely and required intensive care.[20]
