Momodu Bama
Momodu Bama (died 14 August 2013), also known as Abu Saad, was a senior commander and deputy leader of the militant Islamist group Boko Haram. He was regarded by Nigerian security agencies as one of the group's most senior operational figures during the insurgency in north-eastern Nigeria.[1]
Before his death, the Nigerian government declared him wanted and announced a reward of ₦25 million (approximately US$155,000 at the time) for information leading to his arrest.[2]
Activities
Nigerian security authorities identified Bama as the second-in-command of Boko Haram and alleged that he played a key operational role within the insurgent group. Security officials stated that he possessed military expertise, including the operation of anti-aircraft weapons.[3]
In June 2013, Nigerian authorities announced that Bama had been arrested during military operations in the Sambisa Forest area. However, Boko Haram later denied the claim, and subsequent reports indicated that he had remained active within the group.[4]
Death
On 14 August 2013, the Nigerian military announced that Bama had been killed during an operation in Borno State. According to military officials, weapons and explosive devices were recovered during the operation. Boko Haram did not immediately comment on the announcement.[5][6]
