Maximilian "Max" Paul (born 14 February 2000) is a German racing driver competing in the DTM and GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup for TGI Team by GRT as a Lamborghini factory driver.
Career
Karting
Paul started karting in 2011.[1] He has competed in the KZ2 category of the CIK-FIA Karting European Championship and WSK Super Master Series as a factory driver of DR Racing Kart.[2]
Sports car racing
In 2017, Paul made his car racing debut by competing in a round of the DMV BMW Challenge.[3] In 2018, he competed in the Audi R8 LMS Cup.[3] Paul returned to the championship in 2019, competing in four races which he all won.[4] That year he also made his debut in the ADAC GT Masters.[2] He competed in an Audi R8 LMS Evo for the T3 Motorsport team from Dresden, and finished the season in 34th. In 2020, Paul remained in the ADAC GT Masters with T3-HRT-Motorsport.[5][6] Together with his teammate Niels Langeveld, he finished the season in 30th. Paul also made an appearance in the Audi Sport Seyffarth R8 LMS Cup, where he won both races at Autodrom Most and TT Circuit Assen.[7][8][9]
In 2021, Paul started his third season in the ADAC GT Masters with T3 Motorsport, the first aboard a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo.[10] He started the season with Hugo Sasse as his teammate.[11] Later in the season, Sasse was replaced first by Marco Mapelli and then Luca Ghiotto.[12][13] Paul finished the season in 22nd.[14] In 2021, he also joined T3 for a guest start in the Red Bull Ring round of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.[15] He finished the races in thirteenth and eleventh.[16][17]
In 2022, Paul was announced as a Lamborghini junior.[17][18][19] He remained in the ADAC GT Masters with T3 Motorsport once again.[20] He also joined the team to compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona.[21][22] The team finished the race eighth in the GTD class.[23] In the ADAC GT Masters, Paul's teammate would be Lamborghini factory driver Marco Mapelli.[24][25] During the season, the team hit financial troubles and was at risk of insolvency.[26][27] From the fourth round at the Nürburgring onwards, Paul and Mapelli raced under the name Paul Motorsport with the help of Maximilian's father, Tobias Paul, and his main sponsor Meyle.[27][28] At the Lausitzring, Paul achieved his first ADAC GT Masters podium.[29] The pair finished the season with three consecutive podiums at the Sachsenring and Hockenheimring to take 11th in the standings.[17][27][30]
In 2023, Paul joined Oregon Team to compete in the International GT Open with Pierre-Louis Chovet as his teammate.[31][32] Paul took four pole positions throughout the season, and led the team to wins at the Hungaroring, Paul Ricard, Red Bull Ring and Monza to take fourth overall.[33][34][35] Paul also completed a guest start in the ADAC GT Masters with his father's team Paul Motorsport and teammate Simon Connor Primm.[36]
In 2023, Paul also made his full debut in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, joining GRT Grasser Racing Team as a replacement for Mick Wishofer.[17][37] He took a shock victory under heavy rain on his first weekend at the Nürburgring.[38][39] Two seasons in the DTM with family team Paul Motorsport then followed, where Paul notably took pole position at Zandvoort in 2024 and finished third at the same venue in 2025.[40][41]
In 2026, Paul was named an official Lamborghini factory driver.[42][43] At the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, Paul took an early lead for Konrad Motorsport after overtaking Porsche driver Kévin Estre.[44] Paul's main programme for the year lied in DTM and the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, driving the new Lamborghini Temerario GT3 for TGI Team by GRT.[45] On 4 July, Paul suffered a heavy crash after running over an oil spill at the DTM's Norisring round, and broke his lower left leg.[46] In addition to his tibia and fibula, he fractured a lumbar vertebra.[47]
Personal life
Paul is in a relationship with Latvian racing driver Patricija Stalidzane.[48] They shared a car at the 2026 24 Hours of Nürburgring.[49]
