Lee Eui-jin (Korean: 이의진; born February 15, 1990), also known mononymously as Euijin (의진), is a South Korean singer and dancer. He is known as a member of the South Korean boy group Bigflo, and as a former member of the boy group UNB. He made his solo debut on June 26, 2019, with the mini-album e:motion.[1]
Career
2017–2019: Debut with Bigflo, The Unit, and UNB
In 2017, Lee Eui-jin debuted as a member of the South Korean boy group Bigflo.[2] That same year, he participated in the KBS2 survival programme The Unit: Idol Rebooting Project, representing Bigflo. During the competition, he held first place in the public fan vote at one stage of the programme,[3] and ultimately finished in second place in the final vote for Unit B with 164,838 votes, earning a spot in the project group UNB.[4]
In late 2018, Lee Eui-jin appeared as one of the male dancer contestants on the Mnet reality programme Somebody, a dating show in which ten male and female dancers lived together for one month while filming a series of couple dance music videos.[5] He was paired with participant Lee Su-jeong in the programme's finale.[5]
2019–present: Solo debut
On June 26, 2019, Lee Eui-jin held a showcase in Seoul for his first solo mini-album, e:motion, and released it in the same evening, accompanied by the title track "Insomnia" (불면증).[6] The album's title, which emphasizes the initial "e" of his stage name, was conceived to showcase his individual identity as a solo artist.[6] At the showcase, he spoke about his vocal development during the album's preparation: "I love dancing just as much as I have a great passion for being an artist. My vocal skills improved while preparing this album. The teacher who gave me free singing lessons and the person who carefully reviewed my rap for this release feel like benefactors to me — this album was born thanks to them."[1] He also discussed his songwriting contribution, noting that he had included the fandom names of both Bigflo and UNB in the lyrics of one of his original compositions as a tribute to the fans who had supported him.[1]
Personal life
Lee Eui-jin completed his mandatory military service before his idol debut, an unusual sequence that he later noted would allow him to pursue activities without scheduling restrictions.[6]
