La Mujer sin Alma ("The Soulless Woman") is a Mexican drama film of 1944, directed by Fernando de Fuentes and starring María Félix. The movie is an adaptation of an Alphonse Daudet novel.[1][2][3]
Plot
Teresa López (María Félix) is an ambitious, middle-class shop girl who becomes determined to escape her modest background after attending a high-society charity ball. Recognizing that her striking beauty and charm can serve as a vehicle for upward social mobility, she begins deliberately manipulating wealthy men.
Her primary targets become the affluent, mature Don Alfredo Velasco (Fernando Soler) and his nephew-in-law, Enrique Ferrer (Antonio Badú). Operating as a calculating social climber, Teresa maneuvers through a series of tactical marriages and relationships, choosing to exploit and discard her prosperous suitors one by one. Her opportunistic actions ultimately devastate the social standing, wealth, and stability of the entire Velasco-Ferrer family, earning her the titular reputation of a heartless woman.
