The Kataka Chandi Mandir is a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Chandi in Kataka, Odisha, India, near the banks of the Mahanadi River.
History
During the Kalapahad invasion in 1568 AD, the idol of goddess was shifted from its original place in Barabati fort to some distance to the south of the fort. Until the Maratha rule, the idol of Kataka Chandi was worshipped in that place. According to the legend about the present Chandi mandir, once Gopal Chandra Behera, a resident of the Sheikh Bazar area, sat on a stone pile of the Barabati fort, which started shaking. That night, he had a divine guidance through a dream that Chandi herself was there, and the next day he dug up the stone pile and recovered the idol. While carrying the goddess on his head, it became so heavy near the present site, he installed her there. The shrine was later constructed under the rule of the Kanika king.

Festivals
Dashahara and Kali Puja are two prominant festivals observed in here. During Pana Sankranti (Odia New Year), the mother goddess ornated with golden ornaments.
