The Independent Party of Delaware (IPoD) is a political party in the State of Delaware, United States.[2][3] As of August 2026, it is the third largest political party in Delaware with 12,578 registered voters.[4]
The party's homepage outlines their 'Why': "There are simply too many important problems the Democratic and Republican Parties aren't solving, because the solutions are detrimental to their power and their donors. We believe political power belongs to the people - and that a system designed to serve them must also be capable of reforming itself when it no longer does. But when the Democratic and Republican Parties, their entrenched interests, big donors and career politicians benefit from the status quo - we cannot depend on those in power to voluntarily change the rules that sustain it." [5]
The party supports government reforms it claims the Democratic and Republican Parties are unlikely to implement because these reforms are detrimental to the Democratic and Republican Parties' power and donors (so they claim).
The Independent Party of Delaware was officially formed on August 29, 2000, for the stated purpose of providing Delaware voters with an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties. Today, the party's stated "vision" is to grow registered voters to major party status, elect qualified, servant leaders to represent them, implement the government reforms necessary to "fix the system" they believe is toxic, hyperpolarized, and money-motivated, and implement positive solutions to societal problems.
