I Will Live Again (Spanish: Viviré otra vez) is a 1940 Mexican drama film directed by Roberto Rodríguez and starring Adriana Lamar, Joaquín Pardavé and David Silva.[1] The film's sets were designed by the art directors Mariano Rodríguez Granada and Ramón Rodríguez Granada.

Plot

The narrative focuses on a complex, multi-generational story exploring theme strands of romance, family legacy, and reincarnation.[2] The plot follows a young man, Eladio (David Silva), who struggles against societal expectations and severe family opposition to be with the woman he loves, María (Adriana Lamar).[3][4] Their initial romance is cut short by a tragic turn of events and untimely deaths, which leaves their deep connection unfulfilled.[3]

Decades later, the narrative shifts forward to track the lives of a new generation who mirror the physical characteristics and unresolved emotional bonds of the past lovers.[2][3] Assisted by a wise, eccentric family patriarch named Don Chon (Joaquín Pardavé), the younger generation uncovers a web of long-hidden secrets, old letters, and diaries that expose the historical tragedy of their ancestors.[4] Confronting the same structural obstacles and prejudices that broke the original couple apart, the modern descendants leverage the lessons of the past to correct historical errors. Ultimately, they achieve a heartwarming romantic reconciliation, fulfilling the spiritual promise that love will live again across generations.[3][4]
