1924 24 Hours of Spa

The layout of Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (1921–1938), where the race was held

The 1924 24 Hours of Spa (also known as the Grand Prix de Belgique) was the first running of the 24 Hours of Spa. The race took place from 19 to 20 July 1924 at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium.

Organised by the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, the inaugural race took place on the public roads between the towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot. 200 acetylene lamps were erected around the 15-kilometre circuit, as the cars' own lighting systems were wholly inadequate.[1] Rain and fog impacted the race but in the end, Maurice Becquet and Henri Springuel won, covering 1,879.992 kilometres (1,168.173 miles) with an average speed of 78.33 km/h (48.67 mph).[2][3]
