The University of Science and Technology, Yemen (Arabic: لجامعة العلوم والتكنولجيا في اليمن) refers to two universities located in Yemen.

History

The University of Science and Technology Yemen was established in 1994 as the National College of Science and Technology as a non-profit private university.[1]

The university is a member of the Association of Arab Universities, Arab Higher Education Institutions, Arab Network for Open and Distance Education, the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World, the Federation of International Universities, and the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE).

As of 2026, the university has 9,496 students and 605 faculty.[1]

Houthi takeover

In early 2020, five years after the Houthi takeover of Yemen, the Houthi militia seized control of the University headquarters and branches in Sanaa, Ibb, Al-Hudaydah, and Taiz, and twice arrested its president, Hamid Aqlan. The militia appointed Adel Al-Mutawakkil as president and over time replaced many staff and faculty with relatives and other Houthi loyalists.[2][3][4]

In August 2020, the university's previous administration announced that it had moved the university's headquarters to Yemen's interim capital, Aden, and bore no responsibility for activities imposed at university branches controlled by the Houthi.[5][6][7] The Yemen government has invalidated education degrees issued by the Houthi-controlled university.[4]
