Travis Braun

Travis Braun is an American screenwriter and television producer. He created the Disney Junior animated series T.O.T.S. and Pupstruction and the Disney Channel live-action series Fast Layne. In feature work, he wrote the sex comedy film One Night Only, which flopped at the box office[1] and received mixed reviews from critics.[2] He was named the first writer in the history of The Black List to top the annual survey of most-liked unproduced screenplays in two consecutive years, with Bad Boy in 2023 and One Night Only in 2024.[3][4]

Early life

Braun was born in Texas.[5] After attending Franklin College in Indiana for journalism, he applied to film schools. "I applied to all of them. I did not get into any of them... I literally got rejected from every film school," Braun said.[6]

Following this rejection, he wrote a TV spec script and "it was one of the worst scripts ever written."[7] Braun realized, "I don't know how to do it, but I want to do it."

Career

Television

Braun built an early career writing for children's and animated television. He created the Disney Junior series T.O.T.S. (2019) and Pupstruction (2023) and the Disney series Fast Layne (2019), and wrote for series including Muppet Babies, Vampirina and Monsters at Work.[3][4] Vampirina received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Preschool Animated Program in 2018, which Braun shared with writers Chris Nee, Chelsea Beyl, and Jeffrey King.[8]

Feature screenwriting

Braun's screenplay Dying for You appeared on the 2022 Black List.[9] In 2023, his horror feature Bad Boy — about a rescue dog who suspects its new owner is a serial killer — topped the Black List.[4] The following year, his romantic comedy One Night Only topped the 2024 Black List, making Braun the first writer in the survey's then-20-year history to reach the number-one position in consecutive years.[3][9] The script was reviewed within the screenwriting press following its Black List ranking.[10] Bad Boy was subsequently set up with Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart attached.[4]

In February 2025, Universal Pictures acquired One Night Only in an auction, with Will Gluck attached to direct and produce through his Olive Bridge Entertainment banner.[3] Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner were set to star, and the film was scheduled for release on August 7, 2026.[11] Upon its release, the film "debuted below expectations"[12] at the box office and was "poorly reviewed",[13] receiving a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The website's consensus reads: "Hampered by a high-concept premise that's full of red flags, One Night Only has charming moments thanks to its appealing stars but keeps killing the mood with world-building that prompts more questions than the script is willing to answer."[14]
