Tajnuva Jabeen (Bengali: তাজনুভা জাবিন) is a Bangladeshi politician, doctor and activist. She served as a joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), a youth-led political group formed after the 2024 mass uprising in Bangladesh. She resigned from the party in December 2025 over its proposed alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.[1][2] In July 2026, she co-founded a new political platform called Alternatives with former adviser of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Mahfuz Alam.[3] She was also a member of the executive committee of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.[4]

Early life and education

Jabeen is a native of Chattogram, Bangladesh.[1] She is a trained medical doctor, having studied at Cumilla Medical College.[1][2]

Political career

Jabeen was a joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), a youth-led political group formed after the 2024 mass uprising that ended the 15-year rule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League.[5][6][7]

On 28 December 2025, Jabeen resigned from the NCP and withdrew from the 2026 election campaign, citing frustration over the party's policy-making process and its proposed alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.[1][2] Her resignation came a day after senior joint member secretary Tasnim Jara also quit the party.[1] In her resignation statement, she described the alliance as a "planned entrapment" and said her opposition was not based on ideological differences with Jamaat but on the process through which the alliance was formed.[1][5] She stated: "This is bigger than ideology; it is about trust."[1] She also said that the alliance had left the NCP with only 30 seats out of 125 nominations, while Jamaat had secured deals for 70 constituencies.[1]

Following her resignation, Jabeen said she would continue her work for democratic transformation in Bangladesh, stating that "the space for centrist politics is still empty" and that she would "keep trying to fill it."[5]

Co-founding Alternatives (2026)

In July 2026, Jabeen co-founded a new political platform called Alternatives with Mahfuz Alam, a former coordinator of the liaison committee of Students Against Discrimination and formar cabinate member of the interim government of Yunus ministry.[3] The platform was launched with the stated aim of filling the "ideological vacuum" in Bangladesh's politics and offering a centrist alternative to the existing political parties.[3]

According to a statement from the platform, Alternatives was created to "carry forward the spirit of the 2024 student-people uprising" and to build a "non-communal, democratic and progressive" political movement.[3] In June 2026, prior to the formal launch, Jabeen was already reported to be involved with Alternatives in a more informal capacity, focusing on police reform and socio-economic issues.[8]

Cultural work

Jabeen has been involved in Bangladesh's cultural sector. In November 2025, she was appointed to the 26-member executive committee of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy by the cultural affairs ministry.[4]

She has also worked as an actress. She appeared in the Chorki web film Punormilone (2023), directed by Mizanur Rahman Aryan.[9] The film features a cast including Siam Ahmed, Tasnia Farin and Shashwta Datta.[9]

Political views

Jabeen has advocated for centrist politics in Bangladesh. In August 2025, she called for fundamental reforms, stating that the executive, judiciary and parliament should be independent.[10] She has described the NCP's alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami as a "betrayal" of the party's founding principles.[11] She has also spoken about the need for police reform and for security forces to "serve people, not power."[8]
