Stefano Gai (born 11 December 1985) is an Italian racing driver who competes in the Italian GT Championship for Spirit of Race. He has amassed titles in Ferrari Challenge, Italian GT and the Blancpain Endurance Series.
Career
Gai began his racing career in 2007, competing in Ferrari Challenge Italy's Coppa Shell class,[1] which he won in 2009 driving a Ferrari F430.[2] Stepping up to Trofeo Pirelli for 2010, Gai won the series title on his debut year,[3] before successfully defending it in 2011 in a Ferrari 458,[4] his third series title in as many seasons.[5]
Switching to Ferrari Challenge Europe for 2012, Gai finished fourth in the Trofeo Pirelli standings for Ferrari Moscow with four podiums to his name.[6] In parallel, Gai raced for Ferrari-aligned AF Corse in the FIA GT3 European Championship alongside Michael Lyons,[7] scoring five podiums in the six-round season en route to runner-up honours in the overall standings.[8] Continuing with AF Corse for 2013, Gai raced with them in the GTC class of the European Le Mans Series, taking four podiums and securing runner-up honours in class along with Lorenzo Casè and Andrea Rizzoli.[9][10] The following year, Gai joined Ferrari-fielding Scuderia Villorba Corse to compete in the Blancpain Endurance Series,[11] clinching the Pro-Am title alongside Rizzoli, despite not winning a race and scoring three podiums.[12]
After making his full-time debut in Italian GT in 2015 for a variety of teams,[13][14] Gai joined Black Bull Swiss Racing to enter the following season with Mirko Venturi in the Super GT3 class.[15] Kicking off the season by winning at Monza and Misano,[16][17] the Ferrari 488 GT3 crew then scored further wins at Imola and Mugello to take the title.[18][19] Continuing with the team for 2017, Gai won three races with Venturi, one solo and another with Michele Rugolo to secure runner-up honours in the Super GT3 Pro standings.[20][21] Switching to Ferrari-affiliated Scuderia Baldini 27 for 2018, Gai took four wins alongside Giancarlo Fisichella to end the year runner-up in the GT3 standings.[22] Continuing with the team for 2019, albeit only racing in the four-race Endurance Cup,[23] Gai won the season finale at Mugello together with Antonio Fuoco to secure the overall GT3 title.[24][25]

Following a one-off appearance for AF Corse in 2020, Gai returned to Baldini and full-time competition in the Endurance Cup the following year,[26] taking three podiums and finishing third in the GT3 standings.[27] After running most of the Sprint Cup calendar in 2022 between Baldini and AF Corse,[28] Gai continued with the latter to race in the Endurance Cup in 2023, taking three podiums to secure a third-place points finish in GT3 Pro-Am.[29] With AF Corse switching to the Ferrari 296 GT3 for 2024, Gai took a lone overall win at Mugello with Mikkel Mac and Riccardo Ponzio en route to a fifth-place overall finish and third in Pro-Am.[30] Gai then raced for AF Corse–run Spirit of Race in the GT Cup Division 1 Pro-Am class in 2025,[31] winning at Misano and taking two other podiums to clinch the class title with Fabrizio Fontana.[32]
In 2026, Gai returned to GT3 machinery, partnering Fontana at Spirit of Race in both the Italian GT Championship Endurance and Sprint Cups in GT3 Am.[33]
