Sport Mediaset is a news brand through which the Mediaset Group produces its sports programmes, the website sportmediaset.it,[1] and manages the audiovisual rights for numerous sporting competitions broadcast on Mediaset channels.[2]

Overview

Sport Mediaset produces the eponymous sports newscast aired on Mediaset channels, called Studio Sport until 25 August 2012.[3]

It is broadcast from Studio 15 of the Mediaset production centre in Cologno Monzese on Italia 1, Monday to Saturday at 13:05,[4] with a Sunday edition in summer and during Serie A breaks. During the football season, Sport Mediaset XXL airs, hosted by Benedetta Radaelli (until the 2023/2024 season by Mino Taveri),[5] which replaced Guida al campionato from 26 August 2012. Sport Mediaset is also broadcast on a delay Monday to Saturday at 13:35 on TGcom24.

From 17 June 2019, the Sport Mediaset editorial team was incorporated into NewsMediaset.[6]

Currently, the presenters rotate between Monica Bertini, Benedetta Radaelli,[7] Angiolo Radice,[8] Eva Gini,[9] Chiara Icardi,[10] and Roberto Ciarapica.[11]

Website

Since 2009, the website sportmediaset.it has served as the free online daily newspaper of the Mediaset group,[12][13] offering real-time news on major sports, Serie A football and foreign leagues, transfer markets, European competitions, motorsports, basketball, Formula 1 and Formula E, accompanied by videos, photo galleries, live results and hourly updates.

The online portal is periodically renewed in graphics and functionality. In 2011, it introduced a new layout and updated graphics.[14] On 20 July 2019, a new version designed especially for smartphones was launched, with a lighter layout, enriched sections and greater production and publication of videos.[15]

Special editions

During reality shows such as Grande Fratello, L'isola dei famosi and Grande Fratello VIP, to make room for the short daytime strips, the daytime edition of the Sport Mediaset newscast is postponed to 13:15.[16]

On the occasion of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, from 14 June to 15 July 2018, the newscast was renamed Sport Mediaset Mondiali, while maintaining the original times.[17]

On the occasion of the FIFA Club World Cup, from 14 June 2025 the newscast is exceptionally broadcast 3 times a day, with the regular edition at 13:15 and two special slots at 17:55 and overnight.[18]

Former slots

From 17 July to 10 September 2018, Sport Mediaset was broadcast at 14:00 on Italia 2, in simulcast on TGcom24.[19]

Editions aired on TGcom24 at 10:45, 14:00, 16:45 (17:15 on weekends), 19:30 and 00:00.[20]

These newscasts have now been discontinued, and the only slot entirely dedicated to sports news is the delayed broadcast of the daytime edition on Italia 1.[21]

From 6 August 2018 to 2 June 2019, it also aired on Italia 1 in the evening slot at 19:00. This edition was later replaced by Studio Aperto MAG, a lifestyle and entertainment segment of Studio Aperto.[22]
