Alan Joyce: Riding the Jet Stream is a 2026 memoir by former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce. The book was published by Hardie Grant.

Background

Alan Joyce was the CEO of Qantas from 2008 until his resignation in 2023. Joyce previously worked at Aer Lingus, he then moved to Ansett Australia, later joining Qantas in 2008.[1][2] Two books have previously been written about Joyce's tenure as CEO of Qantas, Alan Joyce and Qantas: the Transformation of an Australian Icon (released in 2023) and The Chairman's Lounge (released in 2024).[3][4] During the book's development, it was known as Touching the Jet Stream.[5]

The book details how Joyce navigated events such as the 2008 financial crisis, the founding of Jetstar, the worldwide grounding of the Qantas fleet in 2011, the campaign for same-sex marriage, the COVID-19 pandemic, and industrial relations issues.[6][5]

Reception

Writing for The Sydney Morning Herald, Chris Zappone said of the book "For an aviation CEO's tell-all, the book is well paced and has plenty of action, and attitude."[7]
