Regina Seaways is a 199.14-metre Ro-Pax cruise ferry owned and operated by DFDS Seaways. Built in 2010 by Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in Marina di Carrara, Italy as part of the Coraggio-class series, she was originally ordered for Grimaldi Holding as Energia. Acquired by DFDS Seaways prior to entry into service in 2011, she was renamed Regina Seaways and registered in Klaipėda, Lithuania. Powered by twin Wärtsilä 12V46 diesel engines producing 24,000 kW, she operates on major DFDS North Sea and Baltic routes, including Dunkirk–Rosslare, Kiel–Klaipėda, and Karlshamn–Klaipėda.
Service
Delivered on 13 August 2010 with the name Energia from Nuovi Cantieri Apuania of Marina di Carrara to Grimaldi Lines, it was however laid up the same day in the shipyard awaiting employment.[1]
In August 2011, she was chartered to DFDS and on 2 September she sailed from Marina di Carrara to Klaipėda, where she was renamed Regina Seaways on 22 September 2011. In the same month she entered service on the routes between Kiel and Klaipėda.[2]
On 28 October 2014, it was transferred to the connections between Karlshamn and Klaipėda. In January 2016, it resumed operations on the routes between Klaipėda and Kiel.[1]
On 2 October 2018, while sailing to Klaipėda, a fire broke out in the ferry's engine room, which was quickly put out by the crew.[3] Despite the damage, the ferry still managed to reach Lithuania under its own propulsion.[1][4][5]
On 14 October 2018, it was transferred to the Klaipėda–Karlshamn route, but was operated with only one engine. On 9 February 2019, after carrying out the necessary repairs, it returned to service on the routes between Klaipėda and Kiel.[6][7]
From March to April 2019, it operated on the routes between Klaipėda and Karlshamn as a replacement for Optima Seaways. From 1 October 2021 to 23 December 2022, it operated on the routes between Dunkirk and Rosslare.[8][9]
On 5 September 2023, it returned to service on the routes between Klaipėda and Karlshamn, where it still operates today in tandem with Optima Seaways.[10]
