Poplarville High School is a public school in Poplarville, Mississippi. Poplarville School District. In 2025 it had 137 graduating seniors.[2][3]
History
In 2003, the school district paid $900,000 to the family of a student who died after being hit in the head with a baseball during an informal batting practice that took place three years earlier.[4][5] A year after the incident, the girl's softball coach collapsed and died of a heart attack during practice.[6]
During the 2023–2024 school year it was the top high school in accountability scores in Mississippi. Jonathan Ray was principal.[7][8] In 2024 a $17.7 million school bond for improvements to Poplarville's elementary and high school buildings was considered.[9]
Athletics
The football team won the 4A state title in 2024.[10] It was the school's first state title in football.[11][12] Ty Keys (Tylan Keys) tied the state record for touchdowns in a single game with eight. He scored them on 18 carries and racked up 506 yards in the game.[13][14] He was MVP of the state 4A title game the prior year.[13] In 2025 he was awarded the 4A Mr. Football title.[15][16]
