Politics
Kirchner is considered an important strategic player within the party and represents the power claim of the right-wing extremist East state organizations of AfD.[4]
He joined the AfD in 2014. Within the party, he positioned himself as "far-right". In 2015, he signed the "Erfurt Resolution" by the AfD völkisch-nationalist group led by Björn Höcke. In 2018, Oliver Kirchner was elected head of the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt with 24 percent of the vote.[5]
Kirchner is one of the large group within his party that spread conspiracies about the COVID pandemic and criticized the state measures. He downplayed the global COVID pandemic as the "Great Flu Wave".[5][6]
Kirchner was running as top candidate for the 2021 election of the Minister-President. Kirchner is a close ally of Ulrich Siegmund, who is running as the top candidate for the 2026 election of the Minister-President. He is running for office in second place on the AfD state list in 2026.
