OVS (formerly Oviesse) is an Italian clothing company. It has stores in 35 countries in Europe, Latin America and Asia with a total of over 1300 locations. Revenues were €1.32 billion in 2015.[2] It is the largest clothing retailer in Italy, accounting for about 5% of the national clothing retail market.[3]
History
OVS was founded in 1972 as Organizzazione Vendite Speciali (special sales organization), a division of Coin, an Italian department store chain.[3][4] The company remained a subsidiary of Coin Group until 2015, when an initial public offering (IPO) took place.[5]
In 2016, OVS acquired a 35% stake in Sempione Retail, a Swiss company whose relative majority shareholder was Retail Investment with a 44.6% stake, while another 20.5% was held by Aspen Trust. The company operated a chain of 600 stores, which subsequently adopted the OVS brand. In the summer of 2018, the chain closed, leaving around 1,200 employees without work.[6]
In March 2018, a collection designed by Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner, the influencer sisters, was launched across OVS's 1,600 stores for women, men and children.[7] In September 2018, Massimo Piombo, known for the craftsmanship of his products, became the designer of all OVS lines.[8]
