History and profile

Nordkurier publishing house in Neubrandenburg

Nordkurier was first published on 2 April 1990 as the successor of Freie Erde.[3][4]

The paper is published by Kurierverlags GmbH & Co KG from Mondays to Saturdays.[5] The headquarters of the paper is in Neubrandenburg.[6] It has 14 editions[7] which are distributed in east Mecklenburg, the southern regions of West Pomerania and in Uckermark, north Brandenburg.[6]

Since 2021 Nordkurier is owned and operated by media company SV-Gruppe based in Southern Germany, which owns several newspapers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Baden-Württemberg as well as radio stations, E-Commerce and delivery services.

The Nordkurier does not adequately classify statements and positions of right-wing extremists, especially AfD politicians. The platform Katapult MV described the Nordkurier "as an unfiltered AfD platform“.[2] Gabriel Cords, editor in chief participated in a panel discussion organized by the AfD with far-right media outlets, including Junge Freiheit.[1]
