Nautiyal
Nautiyal is a toponymic family surname originating from the village of Nauti in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. They are one of the 12 original Sarola Brahmin noble houses of the Kingdom of Garhwal.[1][2] Together with the other eleven families, the Nautiyals settled the Himalayan kingdom over several centuries during the early medieval period, after being invited by the Panwar dynasty. According to Raturi, the founder of the Nautiyal lineage accompanied King Kanak Pal, regarded as the first ruler of the Panwar dynasty, from Dhar Nagri in Malwa (modern Madhya Pradesh) to Garhwal in the 8th or 9th century and was granted the fief of Nauti village thus taking its name as his own.[3][4]
