- "Mrs Debierre (Mallika) offered a glimpse—far too brief—of a type of voice that has become rare: such depth, such velvet tone, such artistry of expression! Her first-act duet with Georgette Plessis was deeply moving. One would have to rewrite Lakmé simply to give her role greater importance."
