List of Discovery+ original programming
Discovery+ is a subscription-based streaming service owned and operated by Warner Bros. Discovery+, primarily focused on non-fiction and real-life entertainment. Its programming covers a broad range of genres, including documentaries, lifestyle, food, home improvement, true crime, adventure, natural history, science, technology, and environmental programming. Warner Bros. Discovery describes discovery+ as a non-fiction and real-life streaming service featuring both original productions and content from its extensive portfolio of television networks.[1]
The service was first launched in India on March 23, 2020, before expanding to additional international markets. Its international growth formed part of Discovery's broader strategy of developing direct-to-consumer streaming services and making its extensive television and documentary library available through digital platforms. In the United States, discovery+ officially launched on January 4, 2021, offering more than 55,000 episodes from Discovery's major brands, along with original programming and additional non-fiction content.[2]
A major feature of discovery+ is its concentration on factual and unscripted entertainment. Its catalog includes programming from well-known Warner Bros. Discovery networks such as Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, OWN, Travel Channel, Animal Planet, and Magnolia Network. The platform has also offered non-fiction programming from external partners, including A&E, The HISTORY Channel, and Lifetime, as well as a substantial collection of natural-history programming associated with the BBC.[3]
Content categories form the basis of the platform, which provides subscribers the ability to search for programming based on content themes like lifestyle, relationships, food, true crime, paranormal, nature, adventure, and science and technology. Apart from its library of television shows, discovery+ has created original content and has also made its service accessible across multiple platforms including digital platforms and smart televisions.[4]
Now, discovery+ is part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s wider streaming strategy, along with the other streaming platforms run by the company. The main focus on factual programming makes the platform different from the general streaming platforms by concentrating largely on documentaries and reality shows.[4]
