Political career
Obianyi was elected to represent Ukwa East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly in the 2023 general election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His election was challenged before the Abia State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal. In September 2023, the tribunal dismissed the petition and affirmed his election.
In January 2026, Obianyi resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Labour Party (LP), citing the performance of the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti as the reason for his defection.[4][5][6]
