Kelvin (kidnapper)

Kelvin Ibruvwe (also known as Kelvin Oniarah or simply Kelvin) is a Nigerian who was identified by Nigerian security agencies as a suspected kidnapping kingpin operating in the Niger Delta region. He came to national attention in 2013 following his arrest by a joint operation involving the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS).[1][2][3]

He is from Kokori in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State. Contemporary news reports associated him with a group known as the Liberation Movement of the Urhobo People (LIMUP), which publicly demanded greater development of oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta.[4][5]

Arrest

On 25 September 2013, Ibruvwe was arrested in Port Harcourt by a joint security team comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services after being declared wanted over a series of high-profile kidnapping cases in the Niger Delta.[6][7]

Following his arrest, Nigerian authorities alleged that he led a criminal network responsible for kidnappings, armed robbery and attacks on security personnel across Delta and neighbouring states.[8]

In October 2013, Ibruvwe and another member of LIMUP filed a suit against the Department of State Services, alleging unlawful detention and denying involvement in the criminal allegations made against them.[9]
