Jonah Nimoy (born April 4, 1992) is an American musician and multi-instrumentalist. He is a member of the American punk rock band the Offspring, performing rhythm guitar, keyboards, percussion and backing vocals.[1]
Early life
Nimoy was born and raised in Los Angeles. He began playing drums at the age of seven after repeatedly watching a videotape of the concert film The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. He subsequently attempted to learn pieces including John Bonham's drum solo "Moby Dick" and music performed by Ginger Baker.[2]
Nimoy later became interested in guitar and began forming bands with friends at school. During his high school years, he played in a metal band called Brutal Force. After the group disbanded, he briefly left school and worked as a drum salesman before returning to his education.[2]
After graduating, Nimoy performed with the metal band Legal Tender and participated in several other projects as a singer, guitarist and drummer. He subsequently worked as a touring musician and performed with acts including Stone Sour and Fuel.[2]
Career
Nimoy joined the touring lineup of the Offspring as a guitarist, replacing Todd Morse, who had become the bass player of the band. He later would also become keyboardist and percussionist for the band. In a 2019 interview, he described himself as the band's touring guitarist, keyboardist and percussionist, alongside his work with the band Furiosa and as a music teacher.[2] He later became a member of the Offspring's regular lineup, performing rhythm guitar, keyboards, percussion and backing vocals.[1] He also played keyboard on Supercharged by the Offspring, which was released in 2024.
In 2023, Nimoy appeared on "Suit of Armor", a song recorded by Offspring bassist Todd Morse.[3]
In addition to music, Nimoy has worked as an illustrator and visual artist. He has designed album covers, concert posters and guitar picks, and has exhibited his artwork in the Los Angeles area.[2]
Personal life
Nimoy is the son of television director and author Adam Nimoy.[4] His paternal grandfather was actor Leonard Nimoy, best known for portraying Spock in the Star Trek franchise.[3]
