Fusinus thermariensis is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Fasciolariidae, the spindle snails, the tulip snails and their allies. Fusinus thermariensis is a species of marine gastropod mollusc that belongs to the Fasciolariidae family, popularly referred to as the spindle snails and their relatives. The species is distinguished by its relatively large size of shell, where the largest shells found have been reported at about 54.7mm in length. The species lives in the marine areas of the New Hebrides, currently referred to as Vanuatu in the South Western part of the Pacific Ocean. The presence of the species in the tropical marine waters of the Vanuatu archipelago plays a significant role in the diversity of fasciolariid gastropods in the region.[2]
Description
The shell is rather large compared to other members of the species; the largest known shell length is about 54.7 mm. This measurement is the largest reported shell length and shows the large size that mature individuals can grow up to.[3]
Distribution
This marine species occurs in the waters surrounding the New Hebrides, a historical name for the island group now known as Vanuatu, in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Its distribution is therefore associated with the tropical marine environments of the Vanuatu archipelago.
