Ebrahim Sadri

Ebrahim Sadri (Persian: ابراهیم صدری) was an Iranian Scouting leader and author associated with the development of the Iranian Scouting movement during the mid-20th century. He was active in Iranian Scouting during the period preceding its revival in the early 1950s and was associated with the development of Scouting activities in Iran.[1]

Scouting in Iran

During the 1940s, Iranian Scouting experienced a period of decline and limited activity. Historical accounts of the Iranian Scouting movement identify Sadri, along with Jalil Ketabi and other Iranian Scouting figures, as having remained active during this period and contributing to the movement's later revival.[2]

A Persian-language historical account of the Iranian Scouting movement states that in 1326 in the Persian calendar (1947–48), after Hossein Banai left Iran for further study and research into Scouting activities abroad, responsibility for Scouting affairs was assigned to Sadri.[3]

The Iranian Scouting movement was subsequently reorganized and revived in the early 1950s. Historical accounts identify the efforts of Iranian Scouting figures active during the preceding period as part of the background to this revival.[4]

The Stone Badge

Sadri is particularly associated with the Scouting publication The Stone Badge. The book was described by the World Scouting Museum as a re-imagining of Scoutcraft for Scouts and Scouting associations operating in desert environments where wood was scarce.[5]

The book was published during the period when the Iranian Scouting organization had become one of the strongest Scouting organizations in the region. Accounts of Iranian Scouting describe Iran as a model for other Scout associations operating in desert areas, with *The Stone Badge* providing guidance adapted to environments with limited access to wood.[6]

The World Scouting Museum's exhibition on the cancelled 15th World Scout Jamboree in Iran also identifies *The Stone Badge* as a significant publication associated with Iranian Scouting and Sadri.[7]

Legacy

Sadri's documented role in Iranian Scouting is primarily associated with the movement's difficult period in the 1940s and with the development of Scouting literature adapted to Iran's environmental conditions. His authorship of *The Stone Badge* is among the surviving references to his contribution to Iranian Scouting.[8]
