Cinema City Romania is the Romanian subsidiary of the Cinema City multiplex cinema chain, owned by Cineworld through Cinema City International. It operates the largest cinema network in Romania, with multiplexes located in major cities across the country. The company introduced several premium cinema formats to the Romanian market, including IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX and VIP auditoriums.
As of 2026, Cinema City Romania operates 29 multiplex cinemas with more than 260 screens nationwide.
History
Cinema City entered the Romanian market in 2007 with the opening of its first multiplex at Sun Plaza in Bucharest. During the following years, the company expanded rapidly by opening cinemas in major shopping centres throughout Romania.
The company introduced Romania's first commercial IMAX theatre in 2009, followed by the country's first 4DX auditorium in 2013. In subsequent years, Cinema City also introduced VIP auditoriums and ScreenX technology at selected locations.
Cinema City Romania is part of Cinema City International, one of the largest cinema operators in Central and Eastern Europe, which became part of the Cineworld Group in 2014.
