Cartunez is a reissue studio album by American rapper Ken Carson. It was officially released on August 27, 2026 through Opium and Interscope Records. Initially to be released as a mixtape, the album was later released as the deluxe edition to his fifth studio album Xperiment.[2][3][4] It features guest appearances by Destroy Lonely, OsamaSon, and ApolloRed1.[5]
Background
Cartunez was announced on June 29, 2026, following an online preview of a snippet from the EP.[6] It was intended to release the week after Carson's fifth studio album Xperiment making them back-to-back projects, but ended up not being released on July 10.[2]
The official cover was revealed on the morning of July 10 after Carson failed to release Cartunez, and on July 14, a new snippet was released, presumably from the EP.
On July 21, Carson announced the new release date for Cartunez as July 31. However, Carson failed to release the EP as scheduled.[7] During the rollout for the EP, Cartunez merchandise was revealed to the public, and artists such as ApolloRed1, Nettspend, and OsamaSon were seen wearing it; subsequently, it was also announced through leaked messages that Nettspend would be featured on the project.[8]
In an interview with Dimas Sanfiorenzo of Complex, Carson explained the meaning behind the project, stating “I feel like on Xperiment, I was shying away from my natural sound. On Cartunez, I'm not really doing that at all.[9]
On August 16, 2026, Carson officially announced August 21 as the release date for Cartunez, however yet again Carson had failed to release it as scheduled.
On August 24, 2026 in a now deleted tweet by Carson, the tracklist for the EP was revealed, with it being 12 songs in total.
On August 26, 2026, the Twitter account "Purple4Matter" posted the tracklist, containing 13 songs in total, and another post that it was delivered to DSP's, then 6 hours later, Cartunez released as a reissue to Xperiment.
