COROS Wearables Inc. is a multi-national company based in Dongguan, China. The company designs and manufactures sports technology and wearables for outdoor and endurance athletes.[1][2] As of 2026, the company employs more than 500 people worldwide.[3] Coros was initially associated with smart bicycle helmets, but now offers several products that caters to athletes and fitness enthusiasts, with an emphasis with multisport GPS watches.
History
Founding and initial growth
COROS was founded in China in 2014.[4] The company's first product was the LINX Smart Helmet, which released in 2016 and utilized open-ear bone conduction audio technology.[5] Prior to the release of their first GPS sports watch, they previously produced an established range of smart bicycle helmets with safety design features for cyclists.[5] The company followed with the OMNI smart helmet in 2017 and the SafeSound helmet in 2018.[6][7]
They ended production of smart helmets in 2019 and moved to manufacturing multisport GPS watches.
Recent market Expansion: 2018 to present
In May 2018, COROS launched its first GPS watch - The PACE Multisport GPS Watch.[2]
In October 2018, the company launched its APEX line.
In May 2019, the company launched its flagship watch, the VERTIX.[8][9] It was positioned as a premium offering due to the materials and expanded battery. It also expanded the company's range of sports to include climbing and mountaineering.[10]
In subsequent years, the company began to expand further into endurance sports outside of running. In April 2024, they announced a significant expansion of software for rock climbing.[11]
In August 2026, the company released a software update introducing real time Live Tracking, its first such feature, along with a reworked sleep scoring system that factors in naps and sleep consistency, and a redesigned heart rate dashboard[12]
Security Vulnerabilities
Pace 3 Critical Bluetooth Vulnerabilities
Last March 2025, a security firm released a report about the Coros Pace 3 bluetooth security, where unauthenticated users nearby can manipulate device configurations, access to their Coros account, eavesdrop into their notifications, interrupt an activity, and even factory reset the device. A critical bug fix was needed to address this bluetooth connection problem and the company publicly acknowledged the problem after three months or during the 90-days threshold that it was exposed. DC Rainmaker even covered this problem until the company was able to address this issue after months of not being able to do so. The critical bug fix was then released on August 11, 2025.[13][14]
Products
Pace Series
The PACE 1 (2018) featured a dedicated 'Track Mode' designed to improve pace and distance accuracy on running tracks. After the first version, the PACE series has since had numerous improvements:
Pace Pro
On October 31, 2024, Coros introduced an improved version of the Pace series, the Pace Pro.[22][23] It has a bigger 1.3-inch AMOLED, bigger than the Pace 3 during its release, upgraded processor, new optical heart rate sensor, and full-color maps.
Apex
Apex featured more durable materials than the PACE, and was marketed primarily to trail runners for its long battery life. It came in two sizes (42mm & 46mm).[1][2] The APEX series has since been succeeded by the APEX Pro (2019), APEX 2 & 2 Pro (2022), and APEX 4 42mm & APEX 4 46mm (2025).[3][4] The APEX 3 designation was skipped to align the numbering system with the PACE series.
Vertix
The VERTIX series has since been succeeded by the VERTIX 2 (2021) and VERTIX 2S (2024).[24]
Dura
In July 2024, the company launched its first cycling computer, the COROS DURA, which featured solar charging.[25]
Nomad
In August 2025, the company released the NOMAD adventure watch along with a new set of fishing features.[1]
Operations
COROS' main operations are within mainland China, primarily in Shenzhen and Dongguan. Its Research & Development, engineering, and manufacturing take place in Dongguan. The company's branches in North America, the United Kingdom, and Netherlands B.V (which serves the European Economic Area) are in charge of global marketing and product partnerships outside of mainland China.
Sport Sponsorship
Beginning in 2020, COROS has also partnered with numerous professional athletes, including Eliud Kipchoge, Kilian Jornet, Suguru Osako, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen.[26][27][28][29]
