Bahram (Persian: بهرام), also spelled Behram or Vahram, is a masculine Persian given name of Iranian origin. It derives from the name of the ancient Iranian deity of victory, Avestan Vərəθraγna, through Middle Persian Warahrān and Wahrām. The underlying Iranian word originally conveyed the sense of "smiting resistance", and hence "victorious" or "victory".[1][2]
The Middle Persian form Wahrām (also Warahrān; Middle Persian: 𐭥𐭫𐭧𐭫𐭠𐭭) was the name of the Zoroastrian divinity Verethragna, the personification of victory. In Middle Persian astronomical and astrological usage, Wahrām was also the name of the planet Mars.[2]
Variants of the name include Uzbek and Tajik Bahrom (Uzbek: Баҳром; Tajik: Баҳром).
