Anderson Akaliro is a Nigerian politician and lawmaker. He represents the Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.[1][2] He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and serves as Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Judiciary and Public Complaints.[3][4]

Political career

Akaliro was elected to the Abia State House of Assembly in the 2023 general election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), becoming the only APC member elected to the 8th Abia State House of Assembly.

Following the inauguration of the Assembly in June 2023, he aligned with members of the Labour Party and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to form the majority bloc, which enabled the emergence of the House leadership.

In 2024, Akaliro led a reconciliation initiative among APC stakeholders and candidates in Abia State, calling on the party's national leadership to resolve internal disputes and unite the party ahead of future elections.[5][6][7]

Legislative activities

As a member of the 8th Abia State House of Assembly, Anderson Akaliro serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Public Complaints.

In that capacity, he has participated in legislative oversight relating to the judiciary and public complaints system. He has also supported legislative initiatives relating to the administration of justice in Abia State.[8][9][10]

In February 2024, Anderson Akaliro raised a matter of urgent public importance following a fire outbreak that destroyed the Community Central School, Ofeme, in Umuahia North Local Government Area. The House subsequently resolved to urge the Abia State Government to restore teaching and learning at the school, strengthen fire prevention measures in public facilities, and consider legislation on indiscriminate bush burning.[11][12]
