Anand Ajay Piramal (25 October 1985) is an Indian entrepreneur and Chairman of Piramal Finance.[1][2][3] He also runs Piramal Realty, the financial services and real estate development divisions of the Piramal Group.[4][5]

He founded Piramal Swasthya, a healthcare initiative providing services in rural and remote regions of India. He married Isha Ambani in 2018; the couple had twins in November 2022.[6]

Early life and education

Anand Piramal is the son of Ajay Piramal,[7] chairman of the Piramal Group, and Swati Piramal. He studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.[8]

Career

After graduation, Piramal founded Piramal eSwasthya, a rural-health initiative in Rajasthan that later became part of the Piramal Foundation's primary-care work. In 2010, he acquired the Health Management Research Institute (HMRI) and merged it with eSwasthya; the combined programme was named Piramal Swasthya.[9] Following the merger, the initiative expanded through public–private partnerships with state governments and operated across 20 Indian states. In 2012, Piramal stepped down as CEO, after which the organisation emphasised maternal health among vulnerable populations.[1] Harvard Business School published a case study examining the initiative's use of cross-sector partnerships in scaling primary healthcare delivery.[10][11]

In 2012, he founded Piramal Realty, the group’s real-estate business.[2] In July 2015, Warburg Pincus agreed to invest approximately US$284 million for a minority stake, followed in August 2015 by an investment of ₹900 crore from Goldman Sachs.[12][13] Piramal has also served as an executive director of the Piramal Group / Piramal Enterprises.[4][14]

Piramal Finance shifted its focus from wholesale to retail lending during Piramal's tenure. Following the acquisition of DHFL in 2021, the company expanded its retail operations and reduced its wholesale portfolio.[15] By 2026, the company's assets under management (AUM) had reached ₹1 lakh crore.[16]
