Aminu Maigari

Aminu Maigari is a Nigerian football administrator who served as the 38th President of the Nigeria Football Federation from 2010 to 2014 following his sack on the grounds of “financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration”.[1][2]

Election and tenure

Maigari was elected NFF President in August 2010, succeeding Sani Lulu Abdullahi who had been impeached following a disastrous 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign.[3] His election was contested amid a court petition challenging the validity of the process, but he retained the position after FIFA intervened in support of his continued leadership.[4]

During his tenure, Maigari oversaw Nigeria's participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the Super Eagles reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by France.[5]

Removal from office

On 4 July 2014, as Maigari and other NFF board members returned from the World Cup in Brazil, they were arrested by the Department of State Security at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following a court order banning them from managing Nigerian football affairs.[6] FIFA subsequently issued an ultimatum demanding his reinstatement, and he was briefly restored to his position before the NFF board formally dismissed him in July 2014 on grounds of financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration.[7] He was succeeded as NFF President by Amaju Pinnick in September 2014.[8]
